It’s a natural part of life—our skin changes as we become older. It becomes thinner, less smooth, and less voluminous than before.
Bloom Health offers treatment with dermal fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm to restore volume, smooth away wrinkles and enhance natural facial contours. Common areas of treatment include the nasolabial folds, lips, cheeks, under eye and Marionette lines.
Lip augmentation is an easy way to improve shape, add volume and correct asymmetry of the lips.
Why Is Hyaluronic Acid So Important to Our Skin?
Hyaluronic acid is the naturally hydrating substance in our skin responsible for providing youthful elasticity and fullness. This substance diminishes as we age, causing skin to lose volume while increasing the appearance of wrinkles and folds. In fact, facial aging actually begins in our 20s, when skin firmness begins to decrease as a result of factors such as genetics, diet, sun exposure, smoking, and stress.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic gels that are injected in precise areas just below the surface of the skin, targeting volume-loss and dynamic wrinkles. They help the skin retain moisture and softness, and deliver essential nutrients to the skin. The Juvederm and Restylane families of fillers include a variety of different formulations each uniquely designed for volumizing, shaping and contouring.

FAQs
No, dermal fillers are hyaluronic gels, and are different from Botox and Dysport. [Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators that temporarily relax facial muscles to smooth away lines and wrinkles. For more info on Botox and Dysport, see our website here.]
The Juvederm and Restylane families are from different companies, and they contain slightly different formulations of hyaluronic acid. Both families provide excellent long-term results. Both families include lidocaine in their formulations to decrease discomfort. Certain fillers may last longer—coming at a slightly higher cost. Our knowledgeable providers will help determine which hyaluronic fillers will work best for you.
The various Juvederm and Restylane formulations are distinguished by characteristics such as particle size and cross linking. Some fillers may be more suited for adding volume, while others may be better for facial contouring or wrinkle reduction. Usually a combination of products is needed. The Restylane family of fillers includes their Refyne, Defyne, Lyft, and Silk formulations. The Juvederm family of fillers includes their Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Volbella, and Vollure formulations. Fortunately, our experienced providers will help identify which dermal fillers will work best for you.
The results from dermal fillers will last from several months to 1.5 years depending on the filler used and your individual metabolism. The body naturally dissolves the hyaluronic filler over time. For most treatments, we recommend follow up at 3-6 month intervals to evaluate your progress. Best results are observed with serial treatments.
Effective treatment with dermal fillers requires a nuanced approach, taking into consideration your unique facial attributes, your skin type, and your overall preferences and goals. Small details make all the difference. Our providers are highly trained with expert knowledge of facial anatomy and injection techniques. During your medical consultation, we’ll carefully discuss your overall treatment goals.
The average cost for each syringe of dermal filler is about $585-685. For best results, patients may require up to 2-3 syringes per treatment. Ultimately, this price is determined by the type and quantity of filler used. Certain fillers may have higher cost, with the benefit of lasting longer. Your unique facial characteristics, the degree of volume loss and facial lines, and your overall aesthetic goals will influence the cost.
Dermal fillers have been FDA approved for cosmetic use for over 15 years. Over 2.5 million procedures are performed each year in the US with few adverse side effects. A recent study in JAMA demonstrated that “fillers are very safe and that the most common complications are swelling and infection, which are relatively benign complications, with no permanent side effects.” One of the risks with using fillers is unintentional injection into a blood vessel. The chances of this happening are very small, but if it does occur, the complications can be serious, and may be permanent.
Side effects from hyaluronic fillers are usually minor and temporary. You may have some soreness, swelling or bruising at the treatment sites for a few days. Uneven swelling may occur, with one side more prominent than the other. Typically, these effects last for a couple of days before resolving on their own.
