FAQs

BBL HEROic (BroadBand Light) is Sciton’s next-generation light treatment that helps correct sun damage, redness, and uneven skin tone. It uses quick pulses of light to gently fade pigment and reduce redness, leaving skin clearer, brighter, and more even — with little to no downtime.

Not quite. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and BBL (BroadBand Light) work on similar principles, but BBL HEROic is far more advanced. It delivers faster, more even pulses and treats redness and pigment more precisely — meaning better results with less discomfort and downtime.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 1 week prior

  • Pause active skincare products (Retinoids, Vitamin C, AHAs, BHAs, etc.) 5–7 days before

  • Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete your intake questionnaire

  • Skip heavy makeup or sunscreen — if needed, we’ll help you remove it

  • Dress comfortably — casual clothing is best for an easy change (robes are available)

  • Relax and enjoy — your provider will guide you through every step

  • Consultation: We’ll review your skin goals, medical history, and take “before” photos to track your progress

  • Preparation: Your skin will be cleansed and a light cooling gel will be applied

  • Treatment: The BBL HEROic handpiece delivers quick pulses of light across the skin, targeting unwanted pigment and redness while leaving surrounding tissue unharmed

  • Sensation: Most clients describe it as a gentle warmth or light snap — easily tolerated without numbing

  • Aftercare: Expect mild redness (like a light sunburn) for a few hours. Dark spots may temporarily darken before flaking away naturally over the next week

While BBL HEROic is safe and effective for most skin types, treatment may need to be delayed or avoided if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • You have active skin infections, open wounds, or inflamed acne in the treatment area

  • You have recent sun exposure or a fresh tan (wait 2–3 weeks before treatment)

  • You are using photosensitizing medications (like doxycycline or tetracycline)

  • You have melasma that easily flares with heat or light — your provider may recommend an alternative approach

  • You have a history of skin cancer, certain autoimmune conditions, or uncontrolled diabetes

  • You have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last 6–12 months

At Bloom Health, every client completes a medical intake and skin assessment before treatment to ensure BBL HEROic is safe and personalized for your skin.

Most clients describe BBL HEROic as a series of quick, warm flashes of light — often compared to the feeling of a gentle rubber band snap. The treatment is very tolerable without numbing, and any warmth fades within minutes. Skin may appear slightly pink afterward, similar to a light sunburn, but this typically subsides within a few hours.

Most clients notice improvement after just one session, but for best results, we typically recommend a series of 3–4 treatments, spaced 4–6 weeks apart. This approach helps fade unwanted pigment, reduce redness, and promote overall skin clarity and brightness.

Your provider will tailor the plan to your skin goals — whether that’s even tone, smoother texture, or a radiant, balanced complexion.

BBL HEROic is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared light therapy considered safe when performed by a trained provider. Some mild, temporary effects may occur as the skin responds and renews.

Most are short-lived, such as:

  • Redness or warmth (similar to a light sunburn) lasting a few hours

  • Slight swelling or tightness in treated areas

  • Temporary darkening of pigment spots before they flake off naturally

  • Mild sensitivity to heat or skincare products for 1–2 days

Less common effects may include:

  • Prolonged redness or blotchiness (rare, usually linked to sun exposure too soon after treatment)

  • Minor flaking or dryness as skin refreshes

  • Pigment changes or bruising (uncommon and temporary)

Following your provider’s pre- and post-care instructions is the best way to minimize side effects and achieve clear, radiant results.

Out of caution, BBL HEROic is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. While the treatment is non-invasive, it uses light energy, which has not been thoroughly studied in pregnant or lactating individuals.

In addition, hormonal changes during pregnancy can make skin more sensitive or reactive, increasing the chance of temporary redness or pigmentation.

For safety, we recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to begin your BBL HEROic treatments. Our team will be happy to schedule you when the time is right.

BBL HEROic can be performed on almost any area of the body affected by sun damage, redness, or uneven tone. It’s especially popular for visible areas that tend to show age first.

Common treatment zones include:

  • Face – brightens dullness, evens tone, and minimizes redness

  • Neck – reduces discoloration and sun damage

  • Chest / Décolleté – targets pigmentation and uneven tone

  • Arms & Shoulders – improves freckling and age spots

  • Hands – softens and brightens visible signs of aging

  • Back – clears sun damage and hyperpigmentation

Because BBL HEROic is completely customizable, your provider can adjust settings and filters to precisely target your concerns while keeping the treatment comfortable and efficient.

Yes — we call this the BBL/MOXI Skin Sync. BBL HEROic targets redness, pigment, and uneven tone, while MOXI refines texture and enhances overall radiance. Together, they deliver a complete skin reset — smoother, clearer, and more luminous, all with minimal downtime.

BBL HEROic treatments are not included in the BH+ Monthly Membership. However, members receive exclusive VIP pricing on single sessions. Learn more here.
